Homemade...

PEEPS!!
In my quest to find the perfect Easter treat to make,
I couldn't help but think of the sticky standard...

They were surprisingly less complicated to make than I originally expected
and with a little practice, the piping wasn't too much of a challenge either.

Let's take a looksie!

First your going to need to gather the following ingredients:

  • 1 unflavored gelatin package
  • 1/3 cup cold water (for gelatin)
  • 1/4 cup cold water (for syrup)
  • 1 cup sugar

ALRIGHTY THEN
so first you want to sprinkle your package of gelatin
in the bottom of your mixing bowl over the 1/3 cup of cold water.
Set that aside while you work on the next step.

In a small saucepan, combine 1/4cup of water and sugar
until all the sugar is dissolved.

Stop stirring, and using a candy thermometer, allow the mixture to boil until
it reached 238 degrees (or the soft ball stage)

Remove the syrup from the heat and pour it over the (softened) gelatin mixture.

With a whisk attachment, beat the mixture on medium speed
until soft peaks form and the marshmallow can hold it's shape
(took me about 10min)

Now just get your marshmallow into a piping bag and were ready to get some shapes!

I'm not really sure how to instruct the shapes, it's basically however you like it
Here is how Martha does it.

However you do it, be sure to sprinkle while they're still wet!

What do you think?
Will you try some homemade PEEPS?
